Summer Writing

                       Kill Me Now
I thought of you as I sat there, silently screaming
Mr. Magic Man, I'm trapped in my own head
You did this to me, Mr. Magic Man
I'd rather be dead

I keep losing my train of thought because
This irresistible illusion is toying with my mind
Reality is traveling farther away,
And the truth is getting harder to find

Mr. Magic Man, release me out of the prison of life
You're the one that did this, so put me back right
Or just kill me now
On this stormy night

My Interpretation of "Little Talks" by Of Monsters And Men

Hey! Hey! Hey!
I don't like walking around this old and empty house

So hold my hand, I'll walk with you, my dear
The stairs creak as I sleep, it's keeping me awake

It's the house telling you to close your eyes

In the first verse, we are introduced to an old married couple.  The woman is not quite right in the head, and the man is there to help her and comfort her.  The lines switch between the woman speaking and the man speaking.

Some days I can't even trust myself
It's killing me to see you this way

More evidence here that the woman is slightly off in the head.  She's getting worse, and the husband knows it.

Because though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Now, I might be totally off in this interpretation, but I think that this refers to Greek mythology where when you died, Charon, the ferry man, would take you to the underworld, his ferry being the "ship".  "Because the truth may vary"  refers to there being different versions of the legend.

Hey! Hey! Hey!
There's an old voice in my head that's holding me back

Well tell her that I miss our little talks

Here, the wife is saying that she is haunted by her past, the husband is saying that he misses who she was in her past.

Soon it will all be over, buried with our past
You used to play outside when you were young
Full of life and full of love

When they die, they won't have to deal with her problems anymore, they'll just be another part of her past.  The man is reflecting upon how different she was when she was young.

Some days I feel like I am wrong and I am right
Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear

More proof that she is mental, perhaps she suffered brain damage.

Because though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Hey!

Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Here, the wife's condition gets really bad and she's telling her husband not to listen to her, because she knows she's going crazy. Her screams are matching the screams in her head.

Because though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

You've gone, gone, gone away

I've watched you disappear
All that's left is a ghost of you

The husband is saying how his wife has gotten worse and worse.

Now we're torn, torn, torn apart
There's nothing we can do

Her condition has ruined their relationship.

Just let me go, we'll meet again soon

The wife telling her husband to let her die.

No, wait, wait, wait for me
Please hang around
I see you when I fall asleep

The husband refusing to let her die by herself.  He is saying that they should die together, that he will die in his sleep.

Hey!

Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Because though the truth may vary

This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Don't listen to a word I say

Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Because though the truth may vary

This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Because though the truth may vary

This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Because though the truth may vary

This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

At the end of the song, they die together.

                   Hold My Hand
Carry me until I can walk
Comfort me until I can deal with the shock
Guide me until I can find the way
Talk to me until I forget yesterday
Guard me until I can fight
Sing to me until I fall asleep tonight

Lean on me until you can stand
For I will always be there to hold your hand
                  Down In Flames
The building burns
The people scream
The building screams
The people burn
Rain falls from the gloomy sky
The clouds cry, but their sorrow is not enough to extinguish the rage of the flames

The dry grass catches
The flames run along with the people
They try to run from fate
But they fail
And everything goes down in flames

                    The Blind Man
There's too many eyes
Watching
Judging
Spying
No, just leave me alone
I just want to be left alone
Please
Please, just let me retreat to the shadows
Leave me be
Stop looking at me
I can't stand this
There's just too many eyes

                     The River Valley
Author's Note : I purposely wrote this to be corny.

"The people say there's nothing more beautiful than the Valley Lights.  I think they're wrong because there's you." William said,  looking over at Clara.

"Yeah right."  They stood on the edge of the River Valley, gazing at the legendary lights in the night sky.

A few minutes later Clara asked what made the lights.  William told her about the river people believing it to be lost souls.

"Lost souls?  Then maybe my mom is part of the Lights."

William sucked in a sharp breath.  Clara never mentioned her mother, though he did know how she died.  Clara was with her mother in a carriage, headed for town when they got attacked by bandits.  But it wasn't riches that they wanted, not yet anyway.  They wanted Clara as a hostage.  They would then set up a ransom for her.  Clara's mom, however, refused to give up her daughter.  She told Clara to run, and so she slipped out of the carriage and ran for the woods.  Palace guards were informed, but when they got to the carriage everything had been taken, including the queen's life.

Clara now always needed to be on the move.  William had volunteered to be her personal guard and since he was her best friend, Clara agreed.  Of course, there were other guards as well.  Five ten yards ahead of them and five ten yards behind.  They traveled the world together.  Only they knew where Clara's next destination would be.  The only time they would ever stop would be when Clara's father, the king, died.  At that time, they would return to King City and Clara would be Queen to her people.

At the moment, their destination was the River Valley.  They would camp out on the ledge for the night and reach the Valley tomorrow morning.

William turned to Clara.  He was going to respond to her comment about her mother, but she was already fast asleep.

The next morning, they carefully treaded down the steep trail that was cut into the side of the Valley.  When they reached the bottom they were greeted by a young girl named Brook.  Her hair was the trademark blue-white color of the river people.  Brook guided them to the inn.  They walked in and everyone turned and stared at them.

"Go to the back room."  Brook said.

They headed to the back where a table was set up with the innkeeper at the head.  William immediately sensed that something was wrong.  "What is it?  What happened?"

"We have news from the kingdom.  The king was found dead in his bedchambers yesterday morning.  He was killed by Sky Lords, the same people that killed the Queen.  We believe they are trying to overtake the royal family.  The people fear you're next Princess Clara."

"Then we need to move her to the palace.  The people need their Queen.  We should get moving right away."  William said in a firm voice.

"Oh, that won't be needed."  The innkeeper advanced on Clara and went to stab her with his dagger, but William pushed her out of the way.  The dagger embedded itself into his side as the guards charged forward and attacked the innkeeper.  William fell to the ground and Clara caught him and gently laid him on the ground.

"You idiot." She said through tears.  "Why did you do that?"

"Because I love you." He spoke softly.

One of the guards told Clara about the river healer.  She nodded.  They managed to haul William onto the back of a horse and quickly rode to the healer.

The river healer was an old woman.  She examined William carefully and asked what happened.

"He got stabbed with the dagger of a Sky Lord."  They had been able to determine that the "innkeeper"  was a Sky Lord by the mark on the dagger.

The healer let out a soft whistle.  "This might be trickier than I thought."

The healer gave William a sleeping drug.  "This way you won't feel any pain."

After she did all she could, she stepped away from William and delivered the news.   "I'm going to be honest about this.  He's not going to live.  He has three, maybe four hours left of life."

Clara gasped and went down on her knees.  The healer walked over to her and gently helped her up.  Clara's locket glinted in the sun.  It caught the healer's attention.  "What is that?"

"Oh, this?  It's my mother's locket.  Inside of it is fairy dust.  Just enough for one wish.  If it could bring back my mother I would have used it, but even magic can't bring back the dead."

"Maybe not, but it can heal."

Clara looked up at the healer, her eyes full of hope.  Then she unclasped the chain and opened the locket.  Silvery powder poured into Clara's palm.  She lifted her hand to her face and blew the dust onto William's open gash.   The skin closed up and William awoke.  He looked at Clara and saw her still holding her locket.

"You used your fairy magic on me?  But why?"

"Because I love you."

                                      The Wind

I carry your breath, your voice, your every noise.
For I am the wind.
I beckon you to come with me, but you refuse.
You turn down my offer so you can stay with those you love.
But you don't realize that love is made of chains that hold you back.
No, you don't realize that you chose the chains over the chance to be free.
