Longing for a Wish

Wish, wish upon a  star
In the dark sky, up so far
Will the wish come true?
If only I knew
The longing so strong
I've waited so long
The wanting of it eating at my soul
Everything else seems so dull
I wake up the next morning with hope
A full day of waiting, just have to cope
One moment and the news will arrive
Is he dead, or is he alive?
Then there is a ring from the phone,
What has happened, I can't tell from her tone
The waiting is finished and so is this poem,
For my father is alive and he's coming home.
